48" Range Hood Units - Wall Mount and Island
Range

A 48"
Range Hood is a
perfect size that fits most average sized cook tops and stoves
in the kitchen. They will easily fit over a four hob stove
whether it is gas or electric. There are a few things that
you need to consider apart from the size of the range hood when
it comes to making a purchase. Important factors to consider
are fan performance, style of hood such as wall mount or
island, and circulation.
Once you have decided on the size, the
next important decision to make is whether to go for an island
range hood or a wall mounted range. If you already have a
cooktop, then the decision is quite an easy one to make. If the
cooktop is attached to the wall then you will be looking for a
wall mount model. If you have a stove that is in the middle of
the kitchen, then you will be looking for an island range. Of
course, if you still have to purchase you cooktop, then now is
a good time to decide if you want a stove in the middle of your
kitchen or attached the wall.
The 48 Range Hood units can be bought
as a external vented unit or a recirculating unit. The
vented range hood is attached to a an air duct that blows all
the cooking stale air from inside the kitchen to the outside.
This type of range hood has a filter that stops any particles
from entering the duct unit before being extracted outside.
These vented units are recommended if you have the luxury of
being able to expel the stale air outside as you don't get any
of the cooking air circulating back into the
kitchen.
The recirculating kitchen hoods, suck
in the cooking air and the air is then cleaned through a series
of filters before being blown back into the kitchen. The new
modern kitchen range hoods actually do a good job recirculating
the air. You must remember to clean or replace the filters on a
regular basis, otherwise you will be circulating stale air back
into the kitchen. Some filters are dish washable which does
help with the cleaning.
The performance of the fan will
determine how well the 48" range hood can
extract the cooking steam. If you have a stove full of pots and
pans pumping out greasy stale air in the kitchen, you will
need a fan that can cope with that amount air. The higher
the CFM, the more air it will extract. Remember that the
noise factor will increase with kitchen range
hood fan power. Try to
compare motors and choose a motor that has a lower db as you
don't really want to be cooking over a noisy range
hood.
